One of our past Headwater’s Artist in Residence, Janie Stapleton, has created a poster of a fawn in the woods with the saying, Be an Earth Caretaker. The deer is an eternal sign of love in nature. To be an Earth Caretaker is the human’s way of showing love to our Earth through action.
I believe that all humans must embrace our life’s purpose on this sacred planet, which is to care for our Earth. I am working on completing a book on this subject for 2021. This really is the purpose of Headwaters Outdoor School, to send many Earth Caretakers out into the world. It is what I live for, to teach and mentor people to become Earth Caretakers.
This has been a tough year for everyone. While we have been fortunate enough to stay healthy, our business has been affected by the necessary restrictions of Covid-19. We haven’t been able to run classes this entire year. This personally has caused me great sadness. We are continuing to caretake our camp, and keeping the spirit of our land alive and full of love. We have been working on the upkeep of the land and camp to have everything ready for the day you can all return in 2021.
To help keep the energy of being an Earth Caretaker in the forefront, and to help us with the costs of maintaining the Headwater’s land, I am asking for each person in our Headwater’s family to purchase one or more Earth Caretaker posters.
Please put them in a place where you will see them to remind yourselves to get to work, and to ask yourself each day, What am I going to do today to help the Earth?, and at the end of the day ask, What did I do today to help the Earth?
The money from the sales of the posters will go directly into the land care and upkeep of the camp. I believe money is energy, and this small exchange of energy will help us keep going until we can open up again and share this sacred space with you all.
Headwaters is a shining light in these uncertain, crazy times. We are striving to keep this space as the one constant you can rely on to reconnect with what is real, nature herself. The medicine that is in the Headwater’s community, its teachers, students and families, are what makes this place extra special. You have left you energy in the land through the memories, and your stories you have created here.
We will keep Headwaters strong. We will be creative as we can in keeping the energy going and being able to share this place with you all. We Will be open in 2021, and we will see you all soon!
So, please pass the word and support our school in whatever way you feel you can. The holidays are coming and these posters make great gifts. (Hang them above your computer monitors when you are stuck on remote learning and video chatting all day?)
Thank you for your support. I’ll see you soon out in the woods!
