I found my dream job when I was 15
I started coming to Headwaters when I was 15. My first experiences with the school were the Nature Awareness Class followed by the Wilderness Skills. From day one I knew I had found home.
I decided the next year to take the Philosophy classes, and did my first apprenticeship the year after that. Those three summers were the most influential in my connection to nature as well as for other aspects of my life. Headwaters has been the foundation for most of my successes thus far in life because it has given me so many tools to work with and because the curriculum can be applied to so many different situations. It is also the community to which I compare all others that I am a part of. No other group that I have worked with has been more accepting or open to diversity and change than the community at Headwaters.
Today I am an instructor at Headwaters and run the apprentice program. I have noticed that many people share my initial reaction to Headwaters and the land here. They show up and are instantly infatuated with the skills we teach, the community we have, and the sense of freedom that you get when you come here. And why wouldn’t they? There is no other outdoor school that does what headwaters will do for a person of any age. Headwaters Outdoor School is a place where you get to be the person you want to be rather than the person society tells you to be. So come check it out!
