Headwaters Outdoor School

Welcome to Headwaters Outdoor School

At Headwaters Outdoor School in Northern California we teach primitive skills Earth People have used throughout time to survive in kinship with the Earth. Skills include Wilderness Survival, Tracking, Edible and Medicinal Plants, Nature Awareness, Earth Philosophy and many others. We also offer custom classes for schools, groups, and individuals. Class locations are in areas chosen for their abundance of wildlife, creeks, meadows, forests and spectacular views. Come back to Nature and discover a whole new world before you. Join us for a class today.

My Best Discovery, Andrew Barker

After apprenticing for one summer at HWOS, I was completely changed. As you go through one or more classes, switches go off in your head. You start to connect to your natural self and you connect to nature itself. The feeling of being able to submerge yourself in nature without being scared or grossed out is indescribable. This school will humble you, and teach you. The lessons taught by the teachers not only helped me with Earth-Living skills, but life skills. Headwaters is a home away from home for me now.

Farewell Jack and Bear

We have some sad news to share with you, but feel it’s important that you know. Some of you already know that Tim’s dad, Jack, passed away a few weeks ago. (1/17/10) He had a stroke and passed away 5 days later. Tim was able to be with him when he passed, and held him and helped him Journey to where he was heading. Knowing someone is going to pass and experiencing someone passing are two very different places to be, and Tim is struggling a bit with his loss.

Life Changing and Enriching Experience, Kevin Callahan

Over the years I’ve attempted to write this testimonial more times
than I can count; each attempt soon abandoned. The immensity and
complexity of what I have gained through Headwaters is difficult to put
into words.
